The Story of Broad Collective

Broad Collective was born when Erin Keating and Peg Cafferty met at casting director Jodi Collins' screenplay reading series Creative Control.  We were both there alone, and we struck up a conversation about how hard it is to come to events by yourself, to get up the gumption to network and meet new people.  We exchanged contact info, and the next day, one or the other of us wrote, "you know, we should really start a group for women like us..."  We invited a group of like-minded friends and professional peers to meet that month, and we've been growing the Collective ever since.

After meeting as a small support group for over six months, in March 2006 we held our first big event, designed to expand the collective and connect more like-minded women - a cocktail party at Verlaine which was a rousing success, with over 65 women in attendance.

From that party, we learned that there's definitely a need for an organic organization where inter-disciplinary women can connect, conspire, and build community.  To that end, there are lots of great plans in the works:

- Another quarterly cocktail party (the next one's Monday June 19th)

- A mentorship tea with an inspiring woman who's been in the business and can teach US a thing or two!

- Panel discussions and workshops that channel members' expertise for the benefit of our group and outside organizations

- More small monthly support groups that mirror the practice of the the original group

- And more!

We're open to suggestions, discussion and advice from all comers - please visit the discussion boards and get the conversation started!

Thanks for visiting, and welcome to Broad Collective!!!
